I’m doing the Showstudio chat-a-thon this afternoon for the first time.
Taking part in the chat-a-thon about London menswear.
Ohgod what happened during the London menswear?
Let’s gen up pronto.
Here are some pics I took at the London Showrooms hoo-ha in Paris the other week.
(I’ve already posted about the amazingness of Christopher Shannon – you can see the pix by clicking here etcetcetc)
Craig Green’s amazingness, obviously.
Such extraordinary power and control.
I’m going to order a full look.
The best collection we saw the entire season.
And it’s only his second ever catwalk show.
THE AMAZINGNESS OF JAMES LONG!
One of the total joys of the whole season was hearing people bang on about the amazingness of James’s show.
It felt like a breakthrough moment for him.
Here’s a sweater that arrived too late for his show.
Those amazing mesh zip-ups.
This one with stripes woven in it.
I do believe this jacket is rubberised denim or something.
Agi & Sam-ness!
I adore this jacket.
The print is from public transport upholstery.
It reminds me of the work of Robin and Lucienne Day.
Here’s a close-up of another pattern.
The interesting thing with these two is the twin directions they can travel.
They know how to find a winning print to shove on a T-shirt (their special edition T for the-website-with-the-same-surname-as-me has pretty much sold out).
But they also want to do more.
They want to investigate shape and cut.
Am quite obsessed with the bonkersness of this piece, based on a granny’s jacket.
(“Bonkersness” = highest form of compliment btw)
I already think their work is extraordinary and individual.
The lovely thing about the London support network (they’ve so far only had one season of NewGen sponsorship) is they have time to evolve, and work out how balance the two sides of their work.
Here’s one of the pieces from their collab with artist Richard Woods.
I love these shimmery knits.
Loved the elegance of these wetsuit tops.
Shaun played with branding this season..
Here’s his name picked out shimmer on shimmer.
Also branded: Astrid Andersen.
Here’s her logo on velvet.
Loved her lace top.
Love the way her work develops.
She’s totally stealth.
Branding: the amazing Nasir Mazhar, obviously.
Bobby Abley’s pieces looked amazing too, especially the zip-up jacket with BOBBY ABLEY written under the collar.
DIDN’T TAKE A PIC…
I HAD TO DASH…
LIKE I HAVE TO DASH NOW…
